Ohayocon 2016

Published January 22, 2016 by makeuponatightbudget

Last weekend I went to Ohayocon in Columbus, Ohio. I’ve got to say that this con was fairly disappointing when it comes to panels. Out of 3 days I only went to around 5 panels, which is really bad for a 3 day con. For two out of the three days I dressed up; Friday was Lolita day and Saturday I dress up as Super Sonico. I made a post on my makeup blog on how I did the makeup for both looks. Friday was a decent day. After much struggling and going back and forth, my sister drove me to Columbus, two hours from where I live. My ex goes to school there so I stayed with her. Every year it always seems like a big mistake because she usually makes the con horrible for me but eventually things evened out. Neither I or my sister could afford an extra badge for her (i had pre-ordered mine) and so she had to wander around the con being bored for several hours while I did stuff. I felt really bad and annoyed that my ex wouldn’t let her stay in her place to rest while we were at the con. it just seemed really stupid. To make up for it I set out to get her a bunch of Sailor Mercury stuff from the dealer’s room and a few things from Bioshock (her fave video game franchise). I also paid for the parking ticket, our food, and gas (another reason why I didn’t have money for her badge).

Friday was a pretty chill day. I went to a panel about BJD’s (ball jointed dolls). It was my first BJD panel and I was super excited to meet other people who had the same hobby/interest as me. I haven’t been in the bjd hobby for long but I still love it. I made some new friends with Maria and her wife Gabi. I got to ogle her gorgeous Mini Me doll of Bill Kaulitz, too. The BJD panel’s were my favorite as well as the Steven Universe panel.

I was super nervous about dressing in Lolita too. Not only did I wear two sports bras, two pairs of spanx, and pantyhose, but I had a heavy wig on also. I was afraid someone was going to like say I didn’t make a good lolita or something. Not that I would’ve actually cared but i’ve heard that people in both the bjd and lolita community can sometimes be assholes. But i had a few compliments here and there and even got called a “pretty lolita” in passing. I was really happy. On Friday I also went to the Girls Generation Panel, which is my 2nd time going. I love that panel because it’s always fun to dance to GG, and i love Kpop. It’s a win win situation. But let me tell you, dancing in Lolita gear is no joke! I was sweating, my spanx kept falling down (layering spanx is apparently not a good idea as the materials slide against one another) and my feet were hurting in my 3 in heeled boots. I took them off during the dance but I had been wearing them all day so my feet were pooped.

Saturday I dress as Super Sonico. I hand sewed the vest from scratch (meaning I got yards of fabric and cut things out). It was the hardest thing i’ve ever done but also the best. it actually functioned, looked cute and I was very happy with my cosplay. I even got a few people to take my picture. The best thing was that I actually got 2 Sonico figures as well. That was my goal for the dealer’s room. Get a sonico figure. It was ahead everything else and I’m really happy with my purchases. I also got a lot of things from artist alley. Like I said, I didn’t go to many panels so I spent most of my time in the dealer’s room, artist alley, avoiding furries, and sitting down to rest my feet. I wanted to keep my sister company too, so I met up with her anytime I wasn’t busy.

Sunday I was in and out of the con really quick. it started to get colder and I had to be home to help my cousin’s girlfriend dye her hair. I had commissioned the awesome Consuelo over at Cogs and Creatures to make me and SD size beanie and t-shirt for my boy doll who had been naked ever since I got his body off layaway. She was super awesome! Anyway I ran in, spent a few more in artist alley then headed off towards North Market. North Market is my favorite place to it. It has the best pizza, pierogi’s and macarons! I just had to take my sister there to taste the awesome food. The guy working the parking lot ticket both was a prick though. He gave us attitude and a hard time because we didn’t get a stamp from inside, saying that we actually parked in the lot to go to North Market. I had forgotten you had to do this as I don’t freakin’ live in Columbus or go to North Market constantly. I would usually walk there anyway. Anyway he gave us attitude about it and was a complete dick. But after all that we were on our way home.

I wish this year had been better, panel and con wise. Last year I did a lot more stuff. I’m hoping to go to Colossalcon this summer so I have no idea if i’ll be able to go to ohayocon next year but we’ll see. I made a quick slideshow of some of the pictures and videos I took at the con. Hope you enjoy!

Sailor Moon Everyday Life Re-Ment Opening and Review

Published August 6, 2015 by makeuponatightbudget

So my preorder payment couldn’t have kicked in at a worse time but I got my box of Sailor Moon rements. I love rements, I’ve been collecting them ever since I got into rilakkuma. I don’t have many of them because to get to America rements are about 7-15 dollars, while in Japan they cost like $3, which sucks for us. I love cute tiny things so this just kind of took the cake for me and I preordered it in the heat of the moment. This is a bunch of stuff I don’t need but dammit if it isn’t cute. There are usually 8 rements to a set which is what I got. Each rement celebrates the lives of the 5 main sailor scouts, tuxedo mask, and luna and artemis. Ok I probably got this just so I could have miniature versions of their wands. The SM wands have always been my favorite things and I even had one when I was a kid. I have 4 gashopon transformation compacts and a wand. Rement are usually sold as blind boxes so even though I know I have the entire set I have no idea which ones goes first. So it will be an extra surprise.

Front and Back of the boxes

Oke first one opened and IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT. GOD THESE ARE SO CUTE!!!

First is Usagi’s and I have to say I love love love this one. The first thing is Usagi’s school bag which  has a cute charm on it. The charm is of her bow with the transformation brooch on it. As before with the wand the brooch has some detailing but it isn’t that great. Might be too hard to do on such a small surface. The bag itself does not open. Second thing is a Mini luna!! The paint job could’ve been a little better on her but otherwise she looked adorable. Next is the piece of Usagi toast that has a little bite taken out of it. The bunny iself is printed a little crooked on the bread but the texture and shading of it is very nice. Then there’s a magazine of some sort that has Sailor moon on it. I think this could’ve been better used for something else. Like instead of the magazine her actual compact or another food item, her handkerchief. It just doesn’t seem to connect with Usagi that much. Last is the transformation pen which i think looks better then the other transformation wands. Probably because it’s design is very simple and doesn’t need all the extra fine detailing. The paper has a screenshot of the rankings for the Sailor V video game I give this one a 4/5.PhotoGrid_1438822643450

Second one I opened  was Mercury’s which is number two in the set. it comes with two books and a band to hold them, the transformation wand, a pen, three cookies and a pencil case. The two books are a Science textbook and an English dictionary. You stack both books together(dictionary on top) then put the blue band around it which has mercury’s symbol. The transformation wand is definitely bigger then I expected but not as detailed which sucks. They’re a little on the plain side. The pen is cute and has a little blue bow on it. The cookies are adorable. I really love them. They even have a bit of texture on the back. My favorite thing is the Mercury symbol on the oval like cookie because it really does look like imperfect icing. The detail and artwork on the pencil case is gorgeous. It’s so beautiful but the hinges are too loose so the top just flaps open and the only thing that can fit in there length wise is the pencil, however the small bow on the pencil prevents it from closing all the way. This is stupid since you think the pencil case would fit the damn pen. On the paper that comes with the package there are two cutouts of notebooks you can make for her:) I give this one a 3.5/5

Now It’s time for Mars! I like this one too because it’s very reflective of her life as a Shinto priestess. The bad thing is I’m not entirely sure what all this stuff is haha. First is an arrow that has small bells on it. There the transformation wand which is similar to Mercury’s. Then there is a stick of dango. These items are so small that it’s difficult for my phone to zoom in on them properly which is annoying me. It hard for me to pick up any details Next is a small wallet that has Rei’s photo ID inside. There’s a small red bow on the outside of the brown wallet. You can pinch the wallet closed but it’s meant to stay open, the plastic is just bendable. There’s a small wooden talisman that has a Mars symbol painted in. it could be like one of the good luck charms they sell at the shrine. Theres a strip of accordion folded paper that has a little sticky tab on the back. You insert the paper into this small booklet. I’m not sure what it’s for though. Last it a paper bag that you assemble which leads me to believe that perhaps this was based on Rei’s life during festival time? Like a combination of school and festival time at the shrine. The bag was a little bit of a pain to assemble. I would suggest creasing all the edges before you fold it to make things easier. The paper has a few extra talismans that Rei uses, especially the paper talisman’s where she sayd “Evil spirits, disperse!” as per the english dub.

Next is Makoto. I like hers because it’s food related! Jupiter is my absolute favorite Sailor scout. I’ve always liked her because she was tough yet gentle, strong, smart, a little goofy and loved to eat. Her set has a cute little benton box that comes with rice balls, tamago and and octopus shaped mini dog. There’s the bento box, a rose designed thermos(the cap does come off), a decorative case for the fork(I’m upset that chopsticks didn’t come with it. usually a case has a spoon, fork, and chopsticks). I arranged the bento as best as I could. The top of the box has a rose design but it’s the same pink color as the rest of the box so it doesnt really stand out. I wish It was painted red and green for the leaves. The case has the same design only smaller and it’s painted a darker pink which really helps. They should’ve tied that in together more. The transformation wand is ok as well. The bonus material on the paper is like a printed napkin/possibly the cloth or bag that you usually tie around your bento but the paper is probably too small too be wrapped around the bento box. It could also just be a napkin of sorts. There is also a printed notebook design. Overall I would give this a 3/5 because while cooking is one of Makoto’s main passions she also likes a lot of other things. I think a combination of her hobbies would’ve been best. Kind of like how Rei’s was.

Next is Venus. I really like this one but also its the exact same as Usagi’s. A bag, Artemis, a magazine, transformation pen, a food item. Not at all creative though I do like the bag more. The design is more appealing i suppose but honestly this one is boring because it’s the same thing. Even the bonus paper has the same screenshot of the Sailor V video game. The only extra thing is a crepe paper to go around the crepe. 2.5/5.

Ok Rini’s has got to be my favorite. It is just absolutely too adorable. You have the Luna P ball which is the best looking transformation item of the bunch, a bunny plushie, a lollipop, the time key, a small pink bag, and a locket that opens. The best part is that the extras on the paper has a picture of Usagi and Mamoru to put in the locket!!! I died. This one is jsut so cute. I absolutely love it. I’m afraid I’ll lose the key though. It’s not attached to anything at all. The locket is my favorite thing in her set. That is just too perfect.

The next set is a happy birthday set. Not sure who’s birthday it is but it is super cute none the less. The moon is vanilla and in the shape of a moon! There’s a chocolate luna cake topper and a white chocolate artemis cake topper. There’s also a stand for the cake, 2 champagne glasses and rose crown (which I’m assuming is like a birthday tiara, and a bottle of “sparkling juice” which we all know is champagne. On the paper there’s a circle with the planetary symbols on it. I think this is like a mat that goes underneath the cake or you can set up the two glasses and bottle on it. There’s also a happy birthday card. 4/5

PhotoGrid_1438823072816

Last is Tuxedo Masks. This I think is more like a date night for him and Usagi and not about Tuxedo Mask at all. The only things that’s really his is the star locket. The set comes with a glass with an insertable juice drink and straw, a chocolate ice cream Tuxedo Mask desserts, two crescent moon spoons, a bouquet of roses and the star locket. The paper has two tickets to something and a napkin for the ice cream. Since the juice and straw is removeable its hard to keep it in the glass. I think the tuxedo ice cream is so cute! It even has little TM glasses and a top hat out of chocolate. Oddly enough my favorite things are the crescent moon shaped spoons. It the little attention to detail that gets me. 4/5.

PhotoGrid_1438823635465

Overall there were some ups and downs and things that could’ve been done better. But I am glad I purchased it. Now I just need a way to display it all. I’m thinking about getting a shadow box to hang on the wall or something!

Persona 5 Trailer

Published June 17, 2015 by makeuponatightbudget

FINALLY. FINALLY. FINALLY FINALLY. We got a few 30 second trailers before about P5 but nothing was really set in stone. We got a look at the Protag mostly but we didn’t really know that much about him. I started playing Persona 4 two years ago. My friend Jasmine kept talking about it. Eventually I had another friend who let me borrow a copy and then I purchased a copy for myself. Since then I’ve played Persona Q and have learned a bit about P3. I have P3: FES on my Playstation account but I can’t download it because I don’t have enough space on my PS3 which sucks. My roommate has been bugging me to play it and ever since I got to learn about the characters from PQ I’ve been wanting to play P3 as well.

So what is Persona?

It’s a JRPG that has a lot of elements and things going on in the games. It can be really overwhelming at times. A thing Atlus also likes to do is create multiple endings for games depending on your actions as well as “true” endings which can only be achieved by doing everything perfectly and exactly the way it was intended to be completed.

From Atlus’s website:

“Persona is an RPG series set in cities and high schools in modern day Japan. It focuses on the growth of adolescents who, upon the awakening of their “Persona” abilities, overcome various trials together. The heart of the Persona series is the clashing of ordinary events such as school life, friendship, and love, with the extraordinary such as urban legends, strange rumors, bizarre occurrences, and glimpses of the dark side of society. Its mysterious charm has fascinated fans all over the world. The series has expanded to various media, including anime, music concerts, stage plays, and manga. Its popularity continues to soar by the day. Throughout the series, “Persona” refers to a hidden “personality” or the “other self” that lurks within oneself. Personas manifest themselves as legendary gods and demons, and hold otherworldly powers. The adolescents who awaken to the Persona ability wield their powers to confront and overcome many perils that stand in their way.”

Pretty much in about every Persona game there are monsters (Shadows) that you have to kill, epically long boss battles (it took me about 3 hours to beat the final boss for PQ and I took a break in between), and lots of emo feelings. I mean lots of emo feelings. In P3, in order to activate your Persona you have a trigger object which is literally a gun that you hold up to your head, pull the trigger and scream Persona, and your persona is summoned. That’s pretty brutal. In P4 in order to actually get and accept your Persona you have to face your “true” self, which basically means admitting to yourself those deepest darkest secrets of yours and finally accepting them as who you are. Persona will hit your ass with some seriously deep shit I’m telling you.

Now onto the game trailer.

The whole thing with this game is that the character’s are Phantom Thieves. “Beneath the veneer of typical urban high school life, a group of teenagers mask their mysterious alter egos, their “phantom thief” side. Who are they? Why are they dressed as such? What are their motives? And… why are they being pursued? [Atlus Website]”. The Protag is a high school student (typical of persona really) “who becomes a Persona-user through an unexpected incident. Having moved to Tokyo just before the start of the school year, he finds residence at a cafe run by his parents’ friend, and is about to get his first taste of school life in the big city. The protagonist seems quiet and well-mannered at first glance, but gives a completely different impression once he has donned his “phantom thief” guise.
What is the motivation of his alter ego…? {Atlus]”

Look how cute this little shit is

He’s sooooooo adorable but you know he’s a sneaky little bastard. His Persona actually looks similar to P4’s protag’s persona, Izanagi. Like a little Bit. Arsene has a more devilish vibe to him with the wings and claws and all.

The animation is still very Persona-y. Like other than the name you would instantly recognize this game as part of the Persona franchise. The animation is nicer though and more closely resembling Catherine with a more 3D effect to it. I’m hoping there’s actual “anime” cut scenes like in PQ. I thought those were really cute. Actually there is a blonde pigtailed female character that pretty much does look like Catherine. They have very similar vibes. So far we see three characters, the protag, Catherine 2.0 and another blonde kid. Well there’s a cat too but I’m not sure if he’s part of the team, most likely though because in P3 there was Komomaru, a dog, and P4 had a fox that would help heal you and gift you things. So hurray! We get a cat!.

I’m sure there will be more characters later on but only showing 3 so far is pretty different. In P4 we had like 7 main characters. The worlds you have to explore look absolutely stunning!! They are so vivid and just refreshing compared to the previous persona games. It’s like they have more personality. And since the characters are phantom thieves it only makes sense that they would be robbing high profile places, therefore leading to nicer areas to explore. Im curious to what exactly is the story line and how they get their personas. At the end of the trailer it looks almost as if the Protag is transforming into his persona, something that i don’t think has ever happened before.

Overall the trailer leaves a lot of questions unanswered, which is normal obviously since it just is only a trailer. But there wasn’t that much gameplay action in it. There were just a few tidbits which the menu screens and a few places that the protag was exploring. I honestly can’t wait until the end of the year. This will probably be my birthday present to myself!

Hello!

Published June 16, 2015 by makeuponatightbudget

I’ve created this blog to help share my interests with the world since they are pretty much all over the place. I have like a billion tumblr’s but those are all really impersonal. I’ve decided to try and condense all my interests in one blog in the hopes of satisfying and recording the things that go on in my life. It mainly for me to express myself (I sound like a 14 year old emo kid) rather than gain followers and become popular, that’s what my makeup blog is for 😛

I wanted to see if I could possibly connect with more people with the same interests so this blog was born. I’m keep my makeup blog separated though because that’s more “professional” so to speak and it’s already a themed blog. I didn’t want to muddle it with all my other interests. So here it is! I hope you enjoy:)
